The World’s First Possum Finishing School was established by FAWNA Inc in March 2019. Every year FAWNA cares for orphaned and abandoned joey Western Ringtail Possums. The Western Ringtail Possum is critically endangered due to habitat degradation, climate change, fragmentation due to development and the presence of introduced predators including cats and foxes. This possum is becoming rare in its native habitat but common in towns like Busselton, Dunsborough, Bunbury and Albany due to irrigation and fertilising of gardens and landscapes.
Once raised to 600-700g the sun adult possums are moved to Possum Finishing School to prepare for wild release.
